Notes Allen Busse was born in 1925 in the farmhouse at 955 Higgins Road. He was the only child of Rudolph Busse and Grace Knaack. He entered active duty on December 10, 1943. After his training at Fort Knox California, he was a member of the 13th Armored Division sent overseas to Europe to participate in what became known as the Battle of the Bulge around Christmas in 1944.

Surviving this encounter and the eventual armistice in May of 1945 in Europe, Al’s division
returned to America with the priority that they would be part of the initial and final invasion of Yokohama Bay in Japan. Al was on furlough at the time that the atomic bomb was dropped in August of 1945. He returned to Elk Grove after being discharged in 1946. He married Marge (Margery) Scharringhausen in March 1947. He received his Honorable Discharge on April 19, 1949.
