In 1961, the Peony Pageant was a five day celebration held on Wednesday, June 14 - Sunday, June 18, 1961. Representatives of various northwest suburbs were open to compete. The 1961 winner was Bonita Gay Lacy of Glenview, Illinois. According to a Daily Herald news article from June 15, 1961, the schedule of events were as follows:
Wednesday - Sunday nights: carnival in the Elk Grove Park and Shop and daily tours of the Peony fields.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings: Rodeo, east of model home site on the north side of Higgins Road.
Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm: fourth annual Founder's Day Parade sponsored by the Elk Grove Junior Women's Club.
Sunday at 1:30 pm: Peony Pageant Parade
